Eating in Callantsoog: a village centre within walking distance of the beach
Callantsoog is small enough to do on foot. The places to eat sit in the village centre and by the beach access, and the beach is a short walk from almost every one of them. In high season it is busy, because the village draws a lot of German visitors.
Callantsoog is the northernmost village this guide covers, up on the North Sea coast of Noord-Holland well north of Amsterdam, and it feels different from Schoorl or Bergen further down the coast: flatter, more open, and with a lot more German guests.
Will I notice that so many Germans come here?
Yes, from the menus and from the service. Many places are bilingual and part of what they serve is pitched at those guests. That is no drawback, it is simply how this village works.
How far is the beach?
Not far. Callantsoog is small enough that from almost any place to eat you are standing at the sea within ten minutes, and the Zwanenwater, a dune reserve run by Natuurmonumenten, the Dutch nature conservation society, lies just south of the village.
How is this order decided?
The order below is not for sale. We sort on the Google rating, then on the number of reviews, then on the distance to the beach access. Whoever is at the top is there because guests put them there.
