Beach access Schoorl aan Zee: by bike only, no car

Where do you leave the car?

There is nowhere to park at the beach. The nearest spot is Parkeerterrein Oorsprongweg at the Buitencentrum Schoorlse Duinen, the visitor centre for the Schoorl dunes (Oorsprongweg 1, navigate to Heereweg 62), plus the Molenweg and the Sportlaan in the village. Parking there is paid: €2,45 per hour, from 1 March to 1 November every day from 10.00 to 19.00, public holidays included. From 1 November to 1 March only on Saturdays and Sundays. In Schoorl zone A the rate rises to €4,90 per hour after an hour and a half, with no daily maximum.

Free alternative: the bicycle transfer car park on the Groeneweg in Bergen (1861 PH), about half an hour by bike. Also free are the Rekerkoogweg in Schagen (1749 CJ, roughly 8 kilometres from the coast) and De Uilenvanger in Bergen (1865 AB).

How do you get there without a car?

The Schoorlse Zeeweg is an asphalted cycle path of five kilometres that starts close to the Buitencentrum. By public transport: from Alkmaar station, bus 151 to the Idenslaan stop, and from there the same five kilometres. From Hargen aan Zee, which does have a large car park, you walk along the beach or cycle along the path that connects the two beaches. As the crow flies that is 1.379 metres to beach access 21.

There is cycle parking at both beach accesses. At beach access 22, OpenStreetMap records 100 free spaces, uncovered, about 51 metres from Paal 29.

Can the dog run off the lead?

From 1 October to 1 May all day, anywhere on the beach. From 1 May to 1 October only before 10.00 and after 19.00. In between, the zone you come out on decides what is allowed. Beach access 22 (South, by Paal 29) ends in the middle of the sun beach, yellow post tops, and during the day the dog may not go there even on a lead. Beach access 21 (North) comes out at the transition to the activity beach, orange post tops, and there a lead is allowed all day. If you want to take the dog onto the beach during the day in summer, take 21 and walk northwards.

The municipal council adopted new beach rules in March 2026. Those do not take effect until 1 January 2027.

What is there on the beach?

Paal 29 is the only pavilion, open every day from 10.00 with a closing time that depends on the weather, and it takes no reservations. There is a takeaway hatch, a defibrillator (AED) and a charging point for e-bikes. The 2026 season runs up to and including 20 September, 17.00. Reddingsbrigade Schoorl, the local lifeguard brigade, has a post here. At the access there is a free sunscreen dispenser: hold your hand underneath and a measured dose comes out.

Practical note: almost everything you see here disappears after the season. All the buildings are taken down, apart from the cycle parking behind the dune. That is the only thing that stays up all year round.
