Bergen aan Zee beach access: parking, dogs and access

Where do you park the car?

Eight car parks lie around the access point. Boulevard Zuid is roughly 60 metres from the beach, Boulevard Noord 80, Kennedyboulevard and Van der Wijckplein 150, Parkweg 225, Van Hasseltweg 250, the Zeeweg 400 and the Watertorenweg 850 metres. Those distances come from the village website, not from the municipality.

There is one road into the village by car, the Zeeweg from 1905. If everything is full, the municipality sends you on to Egmond aan Zee, Hargen aan Zee or Camperduin.

What does parking cost and when is it free?

Bergen aan Zee falls in zone B: €2,45 per hour, up to €14,70 per day. From 1 March to 1 November you pay every day from 10.00 to 19.00, public holidays included. From 1 November to 1 March only on Saturday and Sunday, during the same hours. So on weekdays in winter you park for free, and outside those hours all year round. In the centre of Bergen, paid parking does apply all year round.

You can pay with coins from €0,10, by debit card, credit card or parking card. If you use a parking app or enter your registration number, no ticket needs to go behind the windscreen.

Can the dog run off the lead?

From 1 May to 1 October only before 10.00 and after 19.00, on the activity beach and the sun beach. In between it may be on the activity beach on a lead (orange beach-post cap), and on the sun beach (yellow) or naturist beach (pink) not at all. About the winter, the gemeente Bergen (the municipality of Bergen) only says that more is allowed than in summer, without naming the rule. From 1 January 2027 it all changes: recreation beach and nature beach replace the zones, with a lead requirement in season between 10.00 and 19.00.

Kite flying is not allowed on the Van der Wijckplein, exactly the square where most people park.

How do you get there without a car?

From the village of Bergen it is five kilometres: a quarter of an hour by bike, ten minutes by public transport. From 4 July to 30 August 2026 inclusive, a free coast bus runs every half hour between Bergen Plein and Bergen aan Zee, every day between 11.00 and 19.30. The bicycle transfer car parks Groeneweg, De Uilenvanger and Rekerkoogweg are free, as are the park and ride sites in Alkmaar.

Can you get onto the beach with a beach wheelchair?

At the main access point there are two Jutters, beach wheelchairs with wide pneumatic tyres. Free to borrow through Strandpaviljoen Zuid, (072) 589 46 87, booking recommended.

Practical note: the last free parking space before you drive into the village is at the dune entrance Uilenvangersweg, Zeeweg 2, along the N510 by the roundabout. Four waymarked dune routes start from there: 3 and 5,7 km on the south side, 3 and 5,4 km on the north side.
