In OpenStreetMap this place is tagged historic=archaeological_site, an archaeological site. Not as a building, not as a visitor attraction. There is a Dutch-language Wikipedia article on Kasteel Egmond, so the castle exists as an entity and has a history. What you see standing there today we have not checked on the spot.
Where exactly are the ruins?
At 52.62188 / 4.65427, almost two kilometres as the crow flies east of the centre of Egmond aan Zee. Inland, in other words, away from the beach.
That distance is worked out from the coordinates, not driven. How long it takes you by road and which street you need is not here, because we have not checked it.
Is this in Egmond aan Zee?
No. The site belongs to Egmond aan den Hoef, the village inland. There are three villages called Egmond, and the ruins are not in the seaside one where most people park the car.
That is the most important sentence on this page. Search for “kasteel Egmond aan Zee” and drive to the seafront, and you are standing two kilometres wrong.
What is still standing?
We do not know. The OpenStreetMap tag says archaeological site and nothing further about walls, foundations or height.
We have no year of building, no year of destruction, no dimensions and no description of what now comes up above the ground that we could lay against a second source ourselves. Better an empty line than a date we cannot check here. If you have been and can back it up, let us know.
When is it open, and does it cost anything?
Unknown. Opening hours, an admission price, a barrier, a fence, a manager or a foundation: none of these have we been able to verify.
In this guide it says beheerder: overig, manager: other. Here that literally means we do not know who manages the site, not that it belongs to nobody. If you go, assume you are standing on unknown ground and keep to the signs that are there.
Where can you park?
Egmond aan den Hoef is not on the list of paid parking areas of the municipality of Bergen. That list holds Bergen, Schoorl, Bergen aan Zee, Egmond aan Zee and Hargen aan Zee. The hourly rate of 2.45 euros that you pay in Egmond aan Zee does not apply here.
What we do not know: whether there is a car park at the ruins themselves, how many spaces it has, and how many metres you walk from the car. We have not counted and not measured that.
Can the dog come?
The beach rules of the municipality of Bergen apply on the beach, and this lies two kilometres inland. Which rule applies on this site we have not found. Bring the lead.
Checked on 5 September 2026. For the beach at Egmond aan Zee, new rules from the municipality of Bergen come into force on 1 January 2027. Whether that changes anything for the site at the ruins is not known to us.
Is it searched for much?
These ruins are not in our search measurement of 5 September 2026, so we have no volume for them.
What we did measure for Egmond aan Zee, all Dutch-language searches: “wat te doen in egmond aan zee” (what to do in Egmond aan Zee) 480 times a month, “activiteiten egmond aan zee” (activities) 260 times, “vuurtoren egmond aan zee” (lighthouse) 480 times, all three at difficulty 0. For comparison: the Klimduin in Schoorl reaches 6,600 searches a month. For now this page is here for the people who already know the ruins exist.
What else is nearby?
Uitkijkpunt De Bleek, a viewpoint, lies 1.7 kilometres to the south-west, at 33 metres. That is the only viewpoint here whose height we have firm. Torensduin lies roughly two kilometres to the south-west, and its height is not in OpenStreetMap.
Further off: the Noordhollands Duinreservaat (the Noord-Holland dune reserve) begins further south, and the point in this guide lies 4.3 kilometres from here. Bergen aan Zee lies 4.6 kilometres to the north-west, the Klimduin in Schoorl 9.1 kilometres to the north. All as the crow flies, worked out from the coordinates, not driving distances.
