Eating in Egmond aan Zee: on the beach or in the village
Egmond aan Zee has the densest concentration of places to eat on this coast. Roughly two areas: the beach pavilions down at the sea, and the Voorstraat plus the Pompplein up on the boulevard. Down below you eat with sand on your feet, up above you sit out of the wind.
Of all the villages along this stretch of the Noord-Holland coast, Egmond aan Zee has by far the most. That is handy if you turn up without a plan, and it makes choosing harder.
Down or up?
Down below, on the beach, you sit in the pavilions: a view of the sea, sand on your feet, and in a north-westerly a stiff breeze. Up above, on the Voorstraat and around the Pompplein square, you sit out of the wind and closer to the car parks.
The difference counts most outside the summer. In October a terrace by the sea is beautiful and cold; the village is the more sensible choice then.
Is there anything other than fish?
Yes. Alongside the fish places there is Chinese, Italian and a run of places with an international menu. Egmond is big enough not to run on fish alone.
How is this order decided?
The order below is not for sale. We sort on the Google rating, then on the number of reviews, then on the distance to the beach access. Whoever is at the top is there because guests put them there.
