Sleeping in Callantsoog: campsites, holiday homes and a few hotels
Callantsoog leans on campsites and holiday homes; there are only a few hotels. The village is wedged between the North Sea and the Zwanenwater, a dune reserve of Natuurmonumenten, so you are sitting between two nature areas here.
People who come here usually come for a week or longer, and you can see that in what is on offer: plenty of campsites and holiday homes, few hotel rooms.
What is the Zwanenwater?
A dune area belonging to Natuurmonumenten, the Dutch nature conservation society, with two large dune lakes, directly south of the village. Dune lakes of that size are rare in the Netherlands, and this is one of the better birdwatching areas in the northern tip of Noord-Holland, the province Amsterdam sits in.
Is it busy?
In July and August it is, and above all with German guests. Outside those months it empties out quickly and you have the beach largely to yourself.
How is this order decided?
The order below is not for sale. We sort on the Google rating, then on the number of reviews, then on the distance to the beach access. Whoever is at the top is there because guests put them there.
