From 1 November your car parks here for free, except where it does not

From 1 November to 1 March, parking at Hargen aan Zee is free, every day, including public holidays. At Bergen aan Zee, Egmond aan Zee and in Schoorl you still pay on Saturday and Sunday in that same period, but not on weekdays.

The winter season on this coast starts on 1 November, and that is the day the parking meters in different villages start doing different things. Anyone who does not know that comes back in January to a car with a fine.

The difference in one table

Place 1 March to 1 November 1 November to 1 March
Hargen aan Zee daily 10.00 to 19.00 free, every day
Bergen aan Zee daily 10.00 to 19.00 Saturday and Sunday only
Egmond aan Zee daily 10.00 to 19.00 Saturday and Sunday only
Schoorl, Klimduin daily 10.00 to 19.00 Saturday and Sunday only

The rate is 2.45 euros per hour everywhere, zone F, 2026 rate. At Hargen a daily maximum of 7.35 euros applies.

Public holidays count as ordinary days

That is the trap most people fall into. Boxing Day falling on a Thursday is, in Schoorl, simply a weekday, so free. If it falls on a Saturday, you pay. The meter looks at the day of the week, not the calendar.

With a disabled parking permit

That is free everywhere in the municipality of Bergen, all year round, including on the paid days. Electric cars do not park for free: charging costs money, and the standard rate applies at the designated spots.

These figures were checked on 3 September 2026. The municipality sets the rates each year, so check before the new season whether they still hold.
