Which beach pavilions open in winter, and why the rest do not say

Of the fifteen beach pavilions between Egmond aan Zee and Petten, seven publish a season on their own site. Four of those say they are open all year. The other eight give only opening hours per day and say nothing about when they close for the season.

We checked the individual website of every one of the fifteen beach pavilions between Egmond aan Zee and Petten, plus their Google profile. The outcome is not what you would expect.

How many say anything about winter?

Seven of the fifteen. Four of those state that they are open all year round: De Uitkijk in Egmond aan Zee, Evi Beach, Nautilus aan Zee and Zuid in Bergen aan Zee. Paviljoen Noord says so too, but that is in the description on their Google profile and not on their own site, and that kind of profile text carries no date.

Hargen splits its opening hours itself into two seasons, May up to and including October and November up to and including April, which amounts to open all year with a tighter winter schedule.

And the other eight?

They give only opening hours per day. Struin in Camperduin says Monday to Sunday 10.00 to 22.00, and nothing further. Prince George, Noorderlicht, De Zilvermeeuw, blooming beach and De Jongens do the same.

That is not necessarily carelessness. A weekly schedule on a website usually means the current schedule, and plenty of pavilions simply adjust it as soon as the season changes. But for anyone weighing up a trip in January, there is nothing usable there.

One of them is crystal clear, and it is the one that closes

Paal 29 near Schoorl aan Zee. On its own site: you can go there from roughly 1 April to mid-September, in winter they are closed. The reason is given too, and it is physical: the pavilion is put up in March and taken apart again around September. The 2026 season runs to 20 September, 17.00.

That is immediately the reason why Schoorl aan Zee works differently from the rest of this coast. You can only get there on foot or by bike, so there is no pavilion standing there that can bridge a winter.

What we do with that

On the page showing which pavilions are open now, there are three states: open, closed and unknown. That last one is there on purpose. If a site says nothing about the season, we do not write “closed”, because then this guide would send someone away for nothing. Instead it says unknown, with the reason given and the date we checked.

So call ahead in winter before you drive over. That is dull advice, but it is the honest one.
